String Quartet: WHOA!!!

Wow. That's about all there is to say. The string quartet concert tonight was AMAZING. First of all, that was probably my first real exposure to a string quartet. Second, it was awesome. Did I mention it was awesome? They played incredibly tight, musically, and their ensemble playing was off the charts. The Dvorák was fun, the Schulhoff was simply stunning, and we saw a world premier that was beyond weird, but super cool! During the world premier piece, seven people, SEVEN, walked out. Now, let's mention four of them were the performers, one at a time, until all that was left was the recording, but three audience members walked out in the middle of the piece! Insert not nice name-calling. We'll stick with idiots... As an encore they played a wonderful arrangement of a Korean folk song--the same one that Variations on a Korean Folk Song (Chance) is based on. It was so cool hearing strings emulate Eastern instruments. Below are some pictures of the concert hall. Wonderful art and great acoustics...The rest of the day was spent on a guided tour of the city. We focused our efforts in East Berlin. Amazing to see some of the great architecture and the modern integrations after WWII. Also, footnote: there was snow this morning. Only a tiny bit, but still, it's snow.
