Adventures in Salzburg

This was such a wonderful day! The start of the day was a little rocky because we al slept so well we slept through our alarm. So it was a quick shower, quick breakfast and we were off! First on the stop on the day's list was the Salzburger Dom for catholic service and the Mozart mass. There are 5 organs in this cathedral and four are in the front, one big one along the back wall above where you walk in. The big one was played accompanied by a choir and an orchestra at times. Oh my, it was wonderful!!! After the service the group kind of split and some of us got a snack (pastries and hot chocolate) then headed back to the cathedral for what we thought was a recorder/organ concert but what turned out to be a service with recorder and organ. The two girls playing recorders looked about 9 and 11 but sounded so amazing! I didn't know recorders could sound so good. Once he service ended we went looking for the Mozart statue where we were meeting our tour guide. I found a pile of snow to walk/sink/jump on. Our guide was so cute and happy and excited! She's a native "Salzburgian." We saw the Mira Bell gardens where part of the Sound of Music was filmed as well as a couple other places. It was awesome! By the end we were all frozen and in need of warmth so some people went back to the hostel and half of us went off to explore. First we got some hot chocolate. Then we went to the Franciscan monastery on the hill. It was so cool! The view was amazing and we made snowmen on the railing. Some of us even walked up the hill on a ledge next to the wall instead of using the stairs. I was going to at first but got nervous so Melanie went first followed by Annalise and then me. It was so fun and we got some great pictures. The city it up is gorgeous and since it was getting dark we started hiking back down. Once we made it back down to ground level we walked through the town and went in a couple shops. As we were walking through a little courtyard the St. Peter's cathedral's bell started ringing. The sound filled the square and was beautiful. Then we decided we were hungry so we scoured for a place to eat. Eventually we ended up at this Italian restaurant called Spaghetti and Co. I got lasagna and it was amazingly cheesy! So good! We sat and used their wifi for a bit then left in search of a train back to the hostel. We are now here and I am in comfy clothes using wifi! Woohoo! It may be an early bedtime tonight.

I love hot chocolate and bakery pastries!

My pastry! It was like a cinnamon roll, with a sort of brown sugar in the swirls, with a rich glaze over the top. Delicious!

Up on the monastery hill

Look at this view from the hill!!!

We were playing in the snow...

I made a snowman!

We found this little guy already made! So we made him a little family before moving on.

It's a heart… Made from my fists…

The city at night is gorgeous!

The creepy staircase down from the mountain

Dinner!

Lasagna and orange juice

This was up on the monastery mountain. These have little arrow or gun holes in them, but I suggested we sit and get a cool picture! Getting down the hill was ok, it was getting back up that required not slipping in mud.

Lol! Starbucks… you make me laugh.
