A Really Magical Flute

For those of you that saw PLU production of The Magic Flute, the German version was WAY different. The obvious reason, it was in German. The not-so-obvious reason: it was super minimalist. Like, barely anything in terms of costumes and sets. Dr. Powell had mentioned it would be a more "modern" interpretation, but this was beyond expectation. He had us watch the SNL skit Sprokets (for purely academic purposes, of course), and this is the closest comparison I can make. There was a monkey, and the clothing was that minimalistic. Weirdest. Show. Ever. But very well done, and very cool. And the Queen of the Night? Nailed it. Below is a picture of the stage. You'll see the tree on stage right. That's about the most elaborate thing we saw all night. And the orchestra was awesome, too. Really tight playing and an awesome sound.
