Mozart's Birthday in Mozart Land

Today has been pretty awesome so far. Since it's Mozart's birthday, we got to get into both his birth house and his larger house for free. We saw several cool portraits, read Mozart's crazy letters to his family, and saw the instruments that Mozart used to play on. They also had original set and costume designs for his various Operas. It was cool to get such a close view at how the Mozart's lived.

After the houses we trekked up the super steep mountain to Salzburg Castle and got some really amazing views from the castle walls. There was a creepy marionette music with a lot of interesting things on display. We were treated to a puppet show by Melanie and Hannag Eger, which was excellent! Afterwards we went up to the museum part of the castle, where an antique tuba was on display. We saw the royal bedchambers, including the royal toilet, which were all amazing.

When we went out for dinner we passed a ceremony at Mozart's birth house with a brass ensemble playing out the window of his apartment. Melanie waited in line and got a slice of Mozart's birthday cake with a part of his face on it. Now we are currently sitting at a McDonalds waiting for our next concert to start, which should include several Mozart arias, a fitting end to this Mozart-filled day!
