...
I went into the Harlem Gospel Singers concert expecting one of two things: either a large, full-on traditional choir singing gospel tunes; or an over-the-top, in-your-face, praisejesushallelujahamen thrill ride of Holy Spirit and praise - church robes and all.
Fortunately, we got a full-on dose of the latter (and then some), complete with awkwardly dancing elderly German folk and even more awkward sing-alongs. It turns out those are difficult when at least half of your audience doesn't understand a word you're saying.
This concert was hilarious, showy, surreal (seeing this particular show in the very traditional Gewandhaus), and wildly entertaining, and I wouldn't have started this tour any other way. Hallelujah.
Amen.
