Next we made it to the Salzdom for high mass where they performed Mozarts Mass. AWESOME. We heard this piece where it was meant to be heard! Down the street from where he was born, where he playe organ for a few years, and where he was baptized! Even though we couldn't understand a word the priests were saying, The mass was amazing and the musicians were fabulous.
Then just by chance, there was a shorter service following with performances with block flute, or recorder, and organ! Some didn't see this but a few stayed! I really enjoyed this because of how simply unexpected the performers were. I was expecting some older person who was just fascinated with old flute music, but! It was two young girls around 10 years old! Here is a picture of their heads just peaking over the railing-
And man they were GOOD! It was totally unexpected and I enjoyed it immensely.
Then we had an awesome walking tour with an amazingly witty and lovable guide. Even though it was freezing cold outside, I enjoyed it so very much and learned so much valuable knowledge. It was definitely worth while!
Next we split ways and a group of us took an adventure up the side of a hill near an old fortified monastery. For about an hour we trenched through mud and steep slopes on a slippery path! We all had such a blast hiking through the area and the views were breathtaking.
Afterwards commenced the ever-ridiculously impossible task of finding somewhere to eat. We were turned away from a couple places and other places we planned on going were closed. However on this great trek we were able to be right down by the churches while all the church bells were ringing. It was SO loud and beautiful. That was a truly amazing thing to experience. We finally decided to eat Italian then failed to find ice cream (it is surprisingly difficult to find ice cream at dessert time in these cities).
Defeated but uplifted by our awesome day, we headed back to the hostel to sleep. Yet another wonderful adventure!
